Goalscorers: Josh Cooke (2), Connor Parker

Josh Cooke scored an excellent overhead kick for the first goal from an early free kick. After sustained pressure in the first half from Smestow, St Edmund’s from their first attack of the match had a goal disallowed for offside. This then woke our lads up, and Cooke scored his second of the game slotting the ball into the bottom left corner from just inside the box.

Early into the second half, the ball dropped to Connor Parker at the edge of the box, who unleashed a screamer into the top right corner which was unstoppable. The lads really should have scored more but after a convincing first win of the season in the first league game now look forward to their game against Highfields.

Year 7 Boys’ Football
St Edmund’s 2-5 Smestow
Friday 23 September 2016

Line Up:
Ethan Warden
Karam Jawanda
Yahya Muhammad
Josh Bailey
Piers Hardie
Keane Walters
Jyoti Vusal
Billy Merrick
Jayden Bradley
Joel Townsend
Harvey Jones

Goalscorers: Jayden Bradley, Yahya Muhammad, Keane Walters, Jyoti Vusal, Karam Jawanda

After a well-contested first half the scoreline was in the balance at 2-2, with goals from Keane and Karam. The 2nd half though was a much more one-sided affair with Smestow scoring three well worked goals from Yahya, Jyoti and Jayden. If it wasn’t for a number of outstanding saves from the opposition goalkeeper and the crossbar, Smestow could easily have increased the scoreline further. A fantastic performance and result in the team’s first game playing together.
