There is always plenty going on at Smestow School’s library. Here’s the latest library news from our librarian, Mandy Wright…

So far this term we have been extremely lucky with the opportunities we have had that have allowed us to see some real life authors! This is due, in no small part, to our membership of Wolverhampton Children’s Book Group and all the hard work they do behind the scenes to ensure that our young people have access to these wonderful events.

At Smestow we have had a visit from Catherine Doyle, who did a creative writing workshop with some or our year nine students. It was a great session and the students seemed to get a lot out of it.

On 7th March we went to Wolverhampton Grammar school to see Katherine Woodfine – her books, a crime series, are set in a department store in the Edwardian era. Lovely! She told the students how she develops her characters and then involved them in solving a crime that she had created.

Scholastic Book Sale

We have a book sale scheduled for the 24th March. It will be in school for one week and the students will be able to use their World Book Day vouchers against the cost of a book. If any parents wish to come in and have a browse you will be most welcome.
