The year 9s cruise through the first round of the cup with a convincing 12-0 win at Moreton.
The game couldn’t have started better for the lads with Josh Parkes scoring the first of 4 goals on the night within the first 5 minutes of the match. The boys had control from as soon as the whistle started the match and didn’t back down until the final whistle. Shortly after the first Saif Mohammed provided a very neat finish from the edge of the box to double Smestow’s lead before the 10 minute mark. Josh Cooke was outstanding on the day scoring a hat trick overall, all of which were superb finishes from the edge of the box. Ellis Carter & Sagarr Jawanda both scored in quick succession before the half time whistle, giving the boys a 7-0 lead at half time.
The second half gave Mr Webb a chance to try a new formation with the boys in preparation for some very tricky league matches coming up, this didn’t change the game at all. Smestow were still very dominant all over the pitch with Connor Parker getting on the scoresheet not long after the start of the second half which was much deserved after his effort all game. Debutant Aiden Gregory who was very impressive up front, managed to tidily finish a left foot strike from the edge of the box to cap his performance off.
The boys should be very proud of how professional they were with this victory. The most pleasing thing for Mr Webb was that there was no lapse of concentration in defence and a clean sheet was kept.
They now move into the next round where Colton Hills are the opponents, where the boys will hopefully carry on these kind of performances in this cup and go one further than last year!
