The conditions and preparation on a wet cold night at Colton Hills on the 7th November were not the ideal situation for the Year 9 football team for their quarter final game against a Colton Hills side.

Weather conditions and other unfortunate circumstances meant that as soon as we arrived at the school we had to kick off; on a pitch that had surface water on from the rain throughout the day meaning that the lads would not be able to play their free-flowing football. The home side started the game brightly and were dealing with the conditions better than the Smestow Boys. Colton Hills took the lead halfway through the first half which worked in Smestow’s favour as it sparked them into action; they began to deal with the pitch and find the best way to get the upper hand over the opposition. Kaviel Noel found space in the centre of the park and unleashed a fierce drive from 20 yards where the keeper could only parry; Josh Parkes was the quickest to react to this and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner. The boys were back level and pushed on from here gaining real domination over the opposition.

The second half came and Smestow started the half much more brightly, excellent play from Connor Parker in centre midfield to find some space and an exquisite ball through to Josh Parkes who once again provided the calm but superb finish to slot the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper. Smestow never looked back from here and dominated in possession and territory. The pressure finally paid off towards the end of the game where some excellent skill once again from Kaviel Noel on the left hand side of the box; resulted in him finding some space and unleashing another shot where this time the keeper had no chance as the ball nestled into the top corner.

The boys are now through to the Semi Finals of the cup where they are more determined than ever to get their cup back after just missing out last year. The focus now turns to a very important league match next week with St Peters where the lads will have to be on their metal to secure all 3 points.
