Smestow students in Years 8 and 9 had a great morning at Wolverhampton University recently, where they took part in the International Women’s Day event, Careers in STEM Conference – Press for Progress.

The morning started with a very inspirational keynote lecture from Charlie English, a lead engineer for JLR. Her overall theme was to do the best you can and be known for your mind – if you want to achieve your career, you can.

There were a number of different opportunities for the girls to look at careers in all of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects.

The morning finished with a presentation called ‘Unravelling the Myths’ from different women in STEM careers and their journeys to achieving their career.

It was a very successful event and the students felt it was a great start to helping them build their career plans.
