Internal Assessment and Data Capture Policy – 2018-19
The assessments that we form of the students will be guided by the following principles:
- There should be two whole class feedback opportunities to per half term
- All books should be marked for literacy, using strive for five.
- Summative assessments should take place at the end of each term.
Summative Assessment – Informs Teaching
- Always be synoptic.
- Take into account the proportion of the course completed.
- Always be moderated (half-termly)
- Always be standardised.
- Cause future lessons to change as a result of class analysis of the assessments.
Whole class feedback - Inform teaching
- Should be completed two per half term
- Will indicate the next task students will be completing
Formative Assessment – Evaluates Learning
- Be continuous over the course of a series of lessons.
- Cause teaching to be adjusted in light of strengths and areas of development.
- Recognise that variety is key – all students are different and will excel at different forms of assessment. Eg. Practical and theory assessments.
How this Works in Practice
- Informal formative assessment will take place during every lesson and be used to shape the lesson.
- Teacher delivers the content on the unit plan and reaches a formal formative assessment point.
- The teacher sets this formative assessment task and then marks it using whole class feedback.
- The class completed an extended DIRT time where students redraft, extend, work on presentation, work on spellings or are re-taught key points.
- The process begins again until the next formative assessment point.
