Smestow Wins ' Inclusive School of the Year' Award
I wanted to share with you the fantastic news that Smestow School won the Inclusive School of the year, at this years annual city sports awards. Out of all the secondary schools in Wolverhampton, to be voted as most inclusive is an incredible achievement and it is down to the whole of Team Smestow. So, a big thank you to every member of staff who understands the importance that competing/leading at these events has on our students and who are always so accommodating of them leaving lesson slightly early when necessary to allow it happen. Mr Furber - for never saying no when we need a mini-bus to get to a fixture and not moaning when the fixture (almost always!) runs over. Dawn Jones - for making sure that Smestow students are always first in line to benefit from any new initiative that is on offer in the city and the fantastic PE team - who put in all the hours to make it happen week after week!
Leo Martin (YR13 student) also won the volunteer of the year award in recognition for all he has done in the city of Wolverhampton. This award was thoroughly deserved for giving up so much of his time to organise/run sporting fixtures that other students can benefit from!
